Honestly I don’t know about that one. Time share promotions really have to watch about making any claims like that. Vacation is vacation and business is business. They do say that there is some grey area in the tax laws though. Let’s say that a writer feels professionally compelled to go to the Maui Writer’s Conference every year. Technically that is a business expense and may be tax deductible. I’d definitely talk to my accountant before I started salivating about deducting Maui timeshares however. Either way though it is probably something to write about and as such counts as inspiration.

Time share promotions don’t delve much into the area of inspiration do they? They show lots of brochures picturing palm trees, cabanas, surf and lava rocks. What they leave out is any reference to the actual year around benefits to a person’s professional life that can result from a working vacation. Creative types are all very much aware of the need to see something other than their own four walls now and then. How many dentists do though? How many cab company owners realize how important it is to pamper themselves a little?

Well it matters a lot. Who can keep their shoulder to the grindstone nonstop at anything without burning out? Few if any are that dedicated to anything. Those who tell themselves that they are may not be aware of how their work actually suffers from diminishing returns. Time share promotions can’t relate to a customer just how much better they will be at say-day trading-if they buy a timeshare.

It helps to get away from it all once in awhile. Let’s say a person owns one of the many great Maui timeshares. All winter she looks out her town home’s window at a brick wall and sees imaginary palm trees. What’s that worth?
