Does the fantasy of the blue Polynesian ocean seem boring and leave you longing for a few weeks of angling for pan fish in good ol’ American muddy water? French Polynesia is an acquired taste that you might not want to develop. Then a houseboat timeshare on Lake Cumberland in Kentucky or some similar location may be far less expensive and loads more relaxing.
Let’s face it. Not everyone sees free time as an occasion requiring glamour. Some people would rather seek out the simple life and eat home made pie at a roadside diner than wear a tie to yet another stuffy restaurant. Some would rather go in search of the perfect fishing lure than spend hours picking out exquisite black pearl jewelry. Each to his own is the name of the game in recreational pursuits.
That being said what is the best approach to finding that get away house on the water? How are such things deeded? After all these sit on the water rather than the land are they still real estate?
Well generally speaking, a residence is a residence is a residence even when it is a vacation home that sits on the water. Whether a single family dwelling, as in the case of a fresh water based houseboat timeshare or a condo in an enormous ocean going cruise ship, the legal agreement is similar to that of land based real estate. Also regulations about safety and construction methods of living quarters is often pretty much the same as you’d expect to find in conventional housing.
In other words living on the water doesn’t mean that anything goes. Housing is always regulated by people who are looking out for our best interests even when we may only be concerned about cosmetic concerns or the number of buddies the houseboat timeshare will accommodate.
